On Tuesday, July 2, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory raised the alert level for Mauna Loa from the lowest, Normal, green, typical background noneruptive state (where it's been for around a year) to Advisory, yellow, "volcano is exhibiting signs of elevated unrest above known background level." We spoke with Tina Neal, Scientist-in-Charge at HVO, who stressed an eruption is not imminent, but there have been more earthquakes and some sign of magma in the summit.
