During the week of January 1, through January 5, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, while two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 12 DUI arrests compared with 13 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.7 percent.
The Hawaiʻi County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 13 major crashes so far this year, compared with 13 major collisions during the same time last year.
So far in 2025, there have been two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities compared with zero fatal crashes, resulting in zero fatalities for the same time last year.
To date, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
