Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a Kealakekua structure fire.
On Sunday, Kona patrol officers responded to the 79-7300 block of Māmalahoa Highway in Kealakekua for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, they observed flames engulfing the second floor of the building.
Hawai‘i County Fire Department crews arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the fire. Māmalahoa Highway was closed to vehicular/pedestrian traffic between Lehuula Street and Basque Way from 8:33 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. as crews battled the fire.
It is undetermined how the fire started. No injuries were reported.
