Yesterday afternoon, a shark was spotted in the waters off Magic Sands Beach in Kailua-Kona. At 1:15pm, an on duty lifeguard spotted the shark and immediately instructed everyone to exit the water.
After the water was safely cleared; the shark, which lifeguards believe to be a Galapagos Reef shark, continued to casually swim in the bay. On-loookers, many who were visiting Hawaiʻi Island, stayed close to shore taking photos and documenting their experiences on video.
No one was hurt.
The waters remained closed to swimmers throughout the day.
