Construction work on a new playground at Kamehameha Park in Kapa‘au is scheduled to begin today.
The project includes the demolition of dated playground equipment and the installation of new playground equipment and synthetic turf safety surfacing. The new playground will also include climbing elements similar to those at Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area, as well as various spinners and swings, and will meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
During the construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, other Kamehameha Park facilities will maintain normal operations.
In a press release Mayor Roth said, “We committed to our keiki that we would care for and maintain our parks around the island, and we are doing just that. This project is one of 16 islandwide initiatives focused on improving our shared public spaces, making them something every community can be proud of.”
