Starting tomorrow through early April, there will be a temporary closure of Tree Molds Road and recreational area to vehicles due to heavy equipment operations. Pedestrians will be allowed access but must use caution and yield to trucks and machinery on the roadway.
Closures will take place from 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday, however the road and Tree Molds area will be open to vehicles at all other times.
The reason for the closure is due to continued work on Phase One of the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Disaster Recovery Project and traffic safety and infrastructure upgrades. The latest project updates include establishing a materials staging area at the former horse corral off Mauna Loa Road.
