60-year-old Vance Elroy Bond of Hilo was arrested and charged with domestic related offenses following an incident in Hilo. On February 5, Hilo patrol officers responded to an active domestic at a Hilo hotel and determined that a physical altercation occurred between Bond and his 52-year-old former girlfriend, who sustained extensive bruising and swelling to her facial area. Officers also determined that Bond refused to let the victim leave after multiple attempts, and held her against her will within the hotel room. According to police, Bond allegedly struck her multiple times causing a nasal bone fracture, a large facial hematoma, neck and back strain, and a concussion. She was transported to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition where she was treated and released the same day.
After conferring with County Prosecutor’s Office, detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section charged Bond with the following offenses:
- Second-degree assault
- Abuse of a family household member
- Kidnapping
