A 35-year-old Kailua-Kona male pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle collision near the Kailua-Kona pier.
On October 22, police investigators determined that a silver 2023 Toyota Corolla sedan traveling north ran over the pedestrian, who was laying down in the middle of the northbound lane. The impact of the collision caused him to sustain severe head and internal injuries. The vehicle’s driver, a 49-year-old man from Kailua-Kona, stopped to render aid and called authorities. The pedestrian was then transported to Kona Community Hospital for immediate medical attention and subsequently transported to Queens Medical Center in Honolulu for further treatment. ansel.robinson@hawaiicounty.gov.
It has been established that the male pedestrian may have been under the influence of an intoxicant, however police do not expect to file charges in this investigation given that the driver stopped to render aid and the pedestrian’s possible impairment. The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a traffic crash investigation and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Ansel Robinson at (808) 326-4646 ext. 229, or email at
