Hawai‘i Island police are investigating the discovery of a body located near the Hilo Bay shoreline.
Yesterday morning, South Hilo patrol officers and members of the Hawai‘i County Fire Department (HFD) responded to the shoreline after a caller reported observing a body at water’s edge. HFD’s chopper located the lifeless body and brought it to higher ground. The victim, who appeared to be a local male in his late 40s or early 50s, was transported to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His identification is pending by means of fingerprint I.D..Casey.Cabral@hawaiicounty.gov.
Area I Criminal Investigation Section personnel responded to the scene to continue the investigation, which is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest. There were no immediate indications of foul play, however an autopsy has been scheduled for later this week to determine the exact cause of death.
