Hawai’i Island police are investigating a possible South Kona drowning.
On Monday, HPD officers responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at the Honaunau Boat ramp. Beach bystanders extracted the swimmer, who police identified as 75-year old Carol Mugleston of Layton, Utah, from the ocean and began CPR until Hawai’i County Fire Department members arrived and continued life-saving measures.
Paramedics transported Mugleston to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Hawai’i County police ask anyone with information on this incident to call the police department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.
