Boards and Commissions, including County Council meetings, which have been meeting remotely throughout the pandemic, will continue remain virtual. The decision comes as Governor David Ige signed his Emergency Proclamation Related to Sunshine Law In-person Meetings on December 29, 2021, temporarily suspending an upcoming provision in Hawaiʻi’s Sunshine Law that would have mandated at least one in-person location be held for public meetings.
This limited suspension ensures that government entities can continue conducting public meetings online, consistent with the critical transparency requirements of Hawaiʻi’s Sunshine Law.
Members of the public unsure about whether a particular meeting will include an in-person option should contact the Board or Commission directly.
The proclamation will remain in effect through February 28, 2022, unless terminated or superseded by a separate proclamation
