(AP) — Hawaiʻi Public Radio reports state education officials have launched a distance learning program for Hawaiian immersion students. The program began this week with 49 students, even though it’s already two months into the school year. Officials plan to accommodate another 200 students if they can find qualified Hawaiian-speaking teachers. Officials say about 75% percent of the teachers needed for the distance learning program have been hired. Even though many Hawaiʻi public schools students have been learning remotely during the pandemic, distance learning options were only in English.
