(AP) — The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit alleging supervisors of a Hawaiʻi food distribution company discriminated against a Black employee. The lawsuit says supervisors at Suisan Company’s Hilo warehouse subjected the worker to racial slurs and racist references to slavery. Company officials didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. The commission’s lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Honolulu last week alleges the man was later fired in retaliation for reporting the harassment. The commission wants the company to pay compensation, including for lost pay and for emotional pain, suffering and humiliation.
