Hawaiʻi County residents with a driver’s licenses that expired on or after March 16, 2020 will now have until June 8, 2021 to renew them.
The extension comes as the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Division works to make up for the 30,000+ renewals that were affected by COVID-19 in 2020. Licenses may be renewed by appointment only. Residents must apply online at hawaiicounty.gov/renewal.
The extension is part of the Mayor’s 7th Supplementary Emergency Proclamation, signed on April 12, 2021 and the Governor’s 19th Emergency Proclamation, signed on Friday, April 9, 2021. Both emergency proclamations extend all previous policies and procedures related to COVID-19.
“Extending our emergency proclamation affords us the opportunity to get our county back on track,” said Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth in a press release.
