The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management will be holding household hazardous waste collection events March 6 and 7 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The free events will take place at the following locations:
Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Waimea Recycling and Transfer Station.
Sunday, March 7, 2021 at the Pāhoa Recycling and Transfer Station.
The events are for household-generated and self-hauled waste only. Acceptable household hazardous waste items include: automotive fluids, used batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and pesticides.
Business, government agency, non-profit agency, or farm wastes are prohibited by law. No latex paint, electronic waste, and tires will be accepted.
In an effort to adhere to social distancing rules, participants must remain in their vehicles unless directed by authorized personnel. Facial coverings and social distancing are also required.
Prior to arriving at the event items must be placed in trucks, truck beds or unlocked and unoccupied back seats. Due to infection transmission hazards, all containers brought to the event will not be returned and should be disposable.
Any questions or concerns can be directed to Chris Chin-Chance, Recycling Specialist with the Department of Environmental Management, via phone at 961-8554, or by email at recycle3@hawaiicounty.gov.
