The State has added 128 new COVID-19 cases, according to today’s report from the State Department of Health.  That is the fifth day in a row that the state’s increase has been 100 or more cases.  The state’s total is now 15,947.

On the Big Island, there are 19 new cases, bringing the island’s total to 1,405.   There have been 68 residents requiring hospitalization, and 48 people have died from COVID-19.  The State is only reporting 31 of those who have passed in its official total of 221.

The State DOH, without explanation, frequently changes the information it releases.  That has happened often with the scale and information in maps, and today, there is no longer information about the number of people with COVID-19 who have been released from isolation.  That makes it impossible to know on a state or island level how many people on the island have active cases.  As of today, the State has changed the chart to reflect the number of new cases in the past 14 days.  That gives an indication in that, for example, on the Big Island all 184 cases within the past 14 days are active cases since somebody is presumed to be infectious for at least 14 days.  However, there are people who may be hospitalized or may have symptoms that make them infectious (i.e. active) for longer.

On other islands, O’ahu added 106 cases, Maui Island added 2 cases, and one resident who is out of state has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Statewide, 22% of the cases of COVID-19 are in people ages 18 to 29, followed by ages 30 to 39 (18%), and then 40 to 49 (15%).
