COVID-19 is rampant on the island now, especially in East Hawaii–but not limited to East Hawaii. There are cases around the island right now, although the bulk at this time are in people with East Hawaii addresses.
The County is urging anybody who’s been at a large gathering or in close contact with somebody who was at a large gathering to get tested, symptoms or not. As of Monday, the State Department of Health said this island has 179 active cases of COVID-19, and 3 Big Island residents, all of whom lived at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, had perished. Although all were elderly and had underlying health conditions, once they contracted COVID-19, their conditions deteriorated.
Hawaii County Civil Defense says there will be a drive-through testing at Pahoa Regional Park on Wednesday, from 9 til 1. There will also be testing later this week in Kea’au and another testing in Pahoa. Details will be posted as soon as we have them.
