The Hawaii Food Basket will do “Ohana food drops” Wednesday at Cooper Center in Volcano from 10 a.m. until noon, and Friday at the Honoka’a Sports Complex and Skate Park from 10 a.m. until noon.
Anybody who needs food is welcome. These are drive-through events, and volunteers will put the food directly into the back seat or trunk.
The organization has also released its September schedule.
The Hawaii Food Basket is currently providing food for around 80,000 of Hawaii Island’s people, with demand that means it is spending in a month what it generally spends in six months. And that’s with the Food Basket able to buy food at wholesale prices through local stores.
Donations are welcome–see www.hawaiifoodbasket.org for information on how to donate online or via check or credit card. The Food Basket cannot at this time accept direct food donations because of the COVID-19 situation, but people may arrange for direct donations of bulk items with local grocery stores.
