Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald has issued an order that effective Aug. 11, “No one shall enter Judiciary facilities in the Second, Third, and Fifth Circuits if they have traveled in the past 14 days.” This restriction was added in response to Gov. David Ige’s 11th Proclamation related to inter-island travel and applies to facilities in the counties of Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai. Maui County is the Second Circuit, the Fifth Circuit is Kaua’i, and the Big Island is the Third Circuit.
This restriction applies to anybody who has traveled from out of state or interisland.
The denial of access to anyone with a fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, or other symptoms of respiratory illness and/or close prolonged contact with a person who has or is suspected to have COVID-19 remains in place.
On O’ahu, Chief Judge Mark Browning has also issued orders scaling back in-person appearances. More information on those orders may be found by clicking on the appropriate court, for anybody who may have business in O’ahu courts: District Courts and Family Court
All District Court facilities will remain open for general court services, though hours of operation may be modified as necessary.
The South Kohala Couthouse was temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19, and will reopen August 18. Click here for a previous story that addresses matters before that court, some of which have been moved to Kona’s Keahuolu Courthouse and some of which are being rescheduled.
