Hawaii County is offering free sand to residents to help them prepare for Hurricane Douglas, which should start affecting the island late Saturday night.  The county is not providing the bags, which they say may be purchased at local hardware stores.  The County says either jute bags or regular trash bags will work.  Bring your own shovel and bags.

To get a list of locations to pick up sand, corresponding with the map,  click here.

According to Hawaii County Civil Defense, as of Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m., no decision had been made as to which shelters might be opened, and when.
