The Hawaii State Department of Health has announced that the state has 3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. All 3 are on O’ahu.
The State had no new cases for the previous three days. Although Hawaii Island’s count went up by 7 within the last ten days, all 82 Big Island cases are no longer being monitored, and according to Hawaii County Civil Defense, counted as recovered.
All islands have begun reopening, and today at 1:30 p.m., Governor David Ige plans to have all four county mayors as his guests to discuss their reopening plans at his Facebook live press conference (which will also livestream at www.facebook.com/KWXXFM
The total number of cases in the state is now 647, with 604 no longer being monitored. Hawaii has had 17 deaths, which Lt. Gov. Dr. Josh Green points out is the lowest mortality rate in the country. L.G. Green said at a morning discussion live-streamed by the Honolulu Star Advertiser that he believes we need to reopen interisland travel as soon as possible in early June, with international and mainland travel in early July. He wants to see travelers have a COVID-19 test 3 days in advance of boarding the plane and has talked with CVS, which does such testing at their mainland stores. He said that would be helpful in helping the traveler have a shorter quarantine and in helping the state monitor COVID-19.
