There are 3 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on the island of O’ahu, according to the State Department of Health on Wednesday, May 13.
State DOH Director Dr. Bruce Anderson said the three cases are part of a family cluster of 7, with today’s count including 1 adult and 2 children. He also said the family and neighbors do not speak English as a first language, and there is a misconception that testing will cause the disease, rather than diagnose the disease, so it’s been a challenge getting everybody tested and isolated, as would be appropriate to prevent further spread. He said the Department of Health is working with management and residents at the housing complex where the family lives and are waiting on test results from at least 11 others.
The state’s cases now stand at 638, with 563 released from isolation, and 17 deaths (no new). Hawaii County has no active cases of COVID-19, but there have been 75 total. O’ahu has had 414, Maui County 117, and Kaua’i 21.
