Numerous sources are reporting that a dog in North Carolina is likely the first family pet dog to test positive for COVID-19. Three people in the family are reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 as well. The dog, a pug, was tested by Duke Health in Raleigh.
Other animals have tested positive, including several tigers at Bronx Zoo, 2 pet cats in separate places in New York, and pets in Hong Kong and Belgium. Most health experts believe that COVID-19 is passed from people to animals, but not the other way around.
Health experts recommend that anybody with COVID-19 stay away from animals as they do from people, to protect the pets from contracting the virus.
