New West Broadcasting's Darrin Carlson (DC from B97/B93) spoke with Dr. Ka'ohimanu Akiona and Dr. Kimo Alameda regarding today's drive-through screening / testing at the Ho'olulu Complex (Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium , Wong Stadium parking lot) being operated by the Premier Medical Group and Bay Clinic with the support of the County of Hawai'i COVID-19 Task Force.
No doctor’s order is needed for the testing. Clinic physicians on site will make the determination regarding testing. The screening criteria will be based on guidance of the CDC and the State’s COVID-19 Response Task Force, which generally includes exposure to someone with COVID-19 and/or an off-island travel history or contacts, and having symptoms such as a dry cough and fever.
People who visit the screening clinic will be asked to show photo ID. Additionally, people are asked to bring any health insurance cards they have, although insurance is not required.
At Saturday’s drive-through clinic at Old Kona Airport, between 350 and 375 people were screened and 174 met the testing criteria. At a similar drive-through clinic on March 23, 1,629 people were screened and 299 were tested, according to Laura Mallery Sayre of the Daniel Sayre Foundation, which helped manage that event. So far, 4 have tested positive, and all were college students who had returned from the mainland.
