Island Naturals Markets, with stores in Hilo, Kailua-Kona, and Pahoa, have changed their hours and methods of operation because of the COVID-19 crisis. In a release, the store said as a grocery store, an essential business, they are working to keep food and supplies available to all. They also said they will ensure that surfaces are frequently cleaned and disinfected.
In addition, the hours of operation at all stores have been shortened:
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Everyday
9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Dedicated hour for Kupuna and high-risk customers only
Island Naturals also will limit the number of customers in the store in order to allow for social distancing—keeping 6 feet apart. If needed, they will have customers form a line outside, in order to keep the number of customers in the store at an appropriate level. Accordingly, they’re asking that customers complete their shopping as quickly as possible. The release notes there is no need for panic buying or over-purchasing.
Island Naturals has temporarily closed the hot bar and the salad bar, but will have prepared foods in the refrigerated Grab & Go case. Because of the need to ensure social distancing, they have removed customer dining tables and chairs from inside and outside the stores.
Some Island Naturals employees who do not feel comfortable being exposed to the public have been offered temporary layoffs, with some working from home or early hours to reduce store crowding.
The website www.islandnaturals.com/locations will have any updates on store hours as conditions change.
