Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: April 14-20

During the week of April 14 through April 20, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 294 DUI arrests compared with 287 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.44 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 310 major crashes so far this year, compared with 302 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 2.65 percent.

To date, there have been 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 23.08 percent for fatal crashes and 26.67 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
