A visitor, positively identified as Lucas Shepard of California died last Friday after being pulled from waters at Kaʻakaʻaniu Beach on Kauaʻi.
On Mar. 14, first responders were dispatched to the beach for a swimmer in distress. According to a preliminary report, Shepard had been snorkeling when friends were unable to locate him and called 911. He was observed to be unresponsive in the water and was brought to shore by Kauaʻi Fire Department personnel. Despite efforts to revive him, he was declared deceased at the scene.
Based on the preliminary autopsy findings and information gathered during the investigation, the cause of death is believed to have been drowning, and foul play is not suspected
