29 year-old Dyllan Paulo-Leslie of Kona was sentenced to 25 years in prison for two incidents including a November 2022 armed robbery and an April 2023 escape from the Hawai‘i Community Correctional Center (“HCCC”).
Paulo-Leslie recently appeared in Hilo Circuit Court for sentencing in relation to the escape. After reviewing the pre-sentence investigation report and hearing arguments by the parties, he was sentenced to a consecutive five-year prison term for the escape offense and ordered to be taken into custody forthwith to begin serving his sentence.
On June 25, 2024, Paulo-Leslie was sentenced to a twenty-year prison term for Robbery in the First Degree (while armed with a firearm, threatened death or serious bodily injury upon others, in the course of committing theft) and a ten-year prison term for Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree (intentionally damaged property by discharging a firearm which caused damage to a tire) after pleading “Guilty” to the charges at a December 25, 2023 hearing in Kona Circuit Court.
On April 21, 2023, Paulo-Leslie escaped from HCCC by scaling a fence. The next day he was apprehended by police the following day and taken to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
On November 10, 2022, Paulo-Leslie, brandished a firearm during a robbery at a Kaloko Industrial Park restaurant. He and a female passenger fled the scene in a Toyota Tacoma which was later involved in a traffic collision with another vehicle. Paulo-Leslie then discharged a firearm at a police officer responding to the traffic collision. He was arrested a short time later.
Robbery in the First Degree is a class A felony offense which carries a penalty of a twenty-year prison term. Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree is a class B felony offense which carries a maximum penalty of a ten-year prison term. Escape in the Second Degree is a class C felony offense which carries a maximum penalty of a five-year prison term.
