Registration is now open for the 2025 Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup to be held Aug. 15-17 at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium, Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, and Pana‘ewa Park in Hilo.
The event returns following a successful tournament last year that drew 46 teams and approximately 400 players from Japan, Hawai‘i, and the continental United States.
In a press release Mayor Alameda said, “The Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup is a great example of how we can foster cross-cultural connections through friendly competition. Now in its third year, the tournament continues to add teams from across the Pacific, and we look forward to welcoming more players than ever.”
Originally developed in Uruguay in the 1930s, Futsal is version of soccer that is played on a hard court, usually indoors, with five players per side. The smaller space creates a fast-paced sport that emphasizes technique and skill.
The registration deadline is July 25.
