On Friday, Governor Green proclaimed February 14, 2025 “One Love Day” in Hawaiʻi to honor the late Bob Marley’s musical legacy and his 80th birthday.
The Governor signed the proclamation, surrounded by Bob’s sons Julian and Ky-Mani and other members of the Marley family, in the hope that it will encourage residents and visitors to reflect on the values of love, unity and peace that Marley’s music embodies — and which align with Hawai‘i’s Aloha Spirit.
Marleyʻs musical legacy is heavily represented in Hawaiʻi, so much so the “Ja-waiian” sub-genre was born years ago continues to this day.
Marleyʻs message of peace, love, unity and social justice continues to live on through songs such as “One Love,” “Redemption Song,” and “Three Little Birds.”
February 6, 2025 marked what would have his 80th birthday.
