During the week of January 20, through January 26, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 18 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far in 2024, there have been 70 DUI arrests compared with 70 during the same period last year.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 61 major crashes thus far in 2024, compared with 60 major collisions during the same time last year, a decrease of 1.7 percent.
In 2025, there have been two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities compared with three fatal crashes, resulting in three fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 33.3 percent for fatal crashes and 33.3 percent for fatalities.
