Prosecutors have indicted 77 year-old Lowell Pofahl of Puna on charges related to the attempted murder of his 77 year-old wife at their Nanawale Estates subdivision residence on November 22, 2024.
Last week Pofahl made his initial appearance in Hilo Circuit Court where over Prosecutors objections, the Court reduced his bail from $1,655,000.00 to $1,000,000.00. He is scheduled to appear for a return on mental health examination reports on February 21, 2025.
As the Indictment alleges, Pofahl is charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree (intentionally or knowingly cause substantial bodily injury to a person, who is 60 years of age or older), Carrying or Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Separate Felony (intentionally use and/or threatened the use of a firearm, a shotgun, while engaged in the commission of a separate felony offense), and Abuse of a Family or Household Member. Attempted Murder in the Second Degree carries a penalty of life term with the possibility of parole. Use of a Computer in the Commission of a Separate Crime is a class A felony offense and carries a penalty of a twenty-year prison term.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Kirsten Selvig and Woodrow Pengelly.
