A waiting list for Kauhale I Ke Kula Uka, formerly known as the Kaloko Heights Affordable Housing Project, in Kailua-Kona opens today.
Nonprofit developer Hawaiʻi Island Community Development Corporation (HICDC) through property manager Hawaii Affordable Properties, Inc., (HAPI) will accept applications through Monday, August 12, 2024.
Following the application period, a lottery will be held to determine the order in which residents will be processed for eligibility and final tenant selection. Only applications delivered or postmarked by August 12, 2024, will be included in the initial lottery. Applications that are not selected during the initial lottery or are received after the deadline will be placed on the project’s waitlist based on the date and time the application was received.
Kauhale I Ke Kula Uka features 99 family units, including 58 3-bedroom units and 41 2-bedroom units, in addition to a manager’s unit for families earning up to 60% of area median income (AMI).
The units are housed in six two-story and three-story garden-style residential wood-frame buildings with solar water heating and laundry facilities. Each unit will be equipped with a range, oven, refrigerator, and garbage disposal.
A centrally located community center will provide onsite property management space, kitchen, private meeting rooms, congregate gathering space, and mailboxes.
Construction is expected to be complete this fall with families moving into units anticipated for December 2024.
