Due to a communications issues brought on by a global technology outage, some airlines including United, Delta and American issued systemwide ground stops.
The ground stops impacted six flights (1,500 passengers) at Kahului Airport (OGG), six flights (1,000 passengers) at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keāhole (KOA), nine flights (2,700 passengers) at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), and two flights at Lῑhu’e Airport (LIH).
HDOT increased security and extended concessions to accommodate impacted passengers which included allowing passengers to remain in terminals overnight.
All previously scheduled runway construction projects were cancelled to ensure that runways were available when the airlines are ready to resume operations.
Anyone scheduled to fly out today should check with their airline for flight status information before heading to the airport.
