(AP) – Rising insurance premiums for condo owners have become a top issue for House and Senate candidates in urban Honolulu races. House candidate Jillian Anderson said she made it her top issue after getting letter from her condo association announcing a 300% increase in insurance premiums. She says critical issues facing condo owners, especially spiking insurance costs, top her agenda. Her opponent is incumbent Rep. Adrian Tam, who also says his No. 1 issue is the unstable condo insurance market. Tam co-sponsored a bill designed to stabilize condo insurance costs this past session, but it stalled in conference committee. Candidates in other districts are also campaigning on the issue, saying discussions about housing affordability often center on insurance.
