As part of its continuing community outreach about the dangers of fentanyl, the Hawai‘i County Police Department (HPD) provides monthly updates on the number of County fentanyl related arrests (possession/distribution) quantity as well as the amount fentanyl recovered for the preceding month.
During the month of June 2024, there was a total of 1 fentanyl related arrest, 1 in Area I (east Hawai‘i) and 0 in Area II (west Hawai‘i). Police recovered a total of 4.86 grams of illicit fentanyl last month, including 4.06 grams in Area I and .8 grams in Area II. No fentanyl pills were recovered in the month of June.
During the first six months of 2024, police recovered a total of 476.19 grams of fentanyl, enough to kill 238,140 Hawai‘i Island residents.
