32-year-old Kamren Adams of Ocean View was arrested following a lengthy standoff in Ocean View.
On May 12, an Ocean View female called police for assistance after Adams allegedly broke into a residence she was care taking. She reported she was in a fourth floor bedroom the house when she heard a loud bang she thought was a gunshot and saw Adams banging on the front door while demanding entry into the residence.
After hearing glass shatter, the female went downstairs and noticed that Adams had entered the home. When she confronted him, he brandished what appeared to be a black semi-automatic pistol and stated something to the effect of, “where’s my wife and kid!? I’m gonna kill them.” The female then noticed a bullet hole in a third-floor window. She was able to escape the residence by sneaking out of a fourth-floor balcony, As she was exiting, she saw Adams with a black AR-15 style rifle.
Kaʻū patrol officers arrived at the residence and observed Adams at the top of the driveway with a black semi-automatic pistol in his hand. Adams ran back into the residence once he observed police.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene, as Adams had barricaded himself in the residence. After several hours, he voluntarily exited and was taken into custody without further incident.
Detectives with the Area 2 Criminal Investigation section are continuing the investigation.
