The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo will hold its Spring 2024 commencement ceremony this Saturday, May 11 at Edith Kanaka’ole Stadium.
During the private ceremony, which will be live-streamed and recorded for later viewing online, UH HIlo professor of finance Terrance Jalbert will be the keynote speaker while student-athlete David Mayser is the student speaker.
Jalbert who has taught at Hawai’i Hilo since 1996, also was an instructor for the Naval Postgraduate School. Prior to his time in academics, he worked in the agriculture and oil industries. He was awarded the 2000 Board of Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching. He teaches courses in personal finance, corporate finance, investment management, options and futures.
Mayser, a student-athlete graduating with a bachelor of arts in communication, is originally from Munich, Germany, He moved to Hilo in 2020 to pursue his academic and athletic careers. He was a member of the Vulcans Men’s Soccer team for four years. Throughout his time at UH Hilo, he was the student-athlete representative for the PacWest Conference on the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a member of the Hawai’i Hilo Student Advisory Board. This fall he starts graduate school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he will pursue his master of arts in communication studies while also serving as a graduate teaching assistant in the UNLV communication department.
