The Hawai‘i State Judiciary is providing free menstrual products at Courthouses across the state to address period poverty in its communities.
The Third Circuit courthouses in Kona and Hilo are now equipped with dispensers offering no-cost feminine hygiene products. Aliʻiōlani Hale on Oʻahu, Puʻuhonua Kaulike on Kauaʻi, and Hoapili Hale and Lahaina District Courthouse on Maui also have the dispensers.
The non-profit organization Maʻi Movement, and its co-founder Nikki-Ann Yee are credited for helping the Judiciary launching this movement
In a press release Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald said, “Enabling access to justice can take many forms. Providing these products at no cost in our courthouses is just one way the Judiciary can make someone’s court experience just a little easier and it is our kuleana to work towards equal access to justice.”
