The Department of Transportation announced a number of Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of December 25, 2023. A Holiday Lane Closure Restriction is currently running through Tuesday, Jan. 2. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Monday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Day. HOV/Contraflow lanes will not be operational on this day. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.
HAWAII BELT ROAD / KAWAIHAE ROAD (ROUTE 19)
PAPAIKOU
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 6.2 and 6.4, in the vicinity of Kapue Stream Bridge beginning Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for emergency repairs to Kapue Stream Bridge.
PAPAALOA
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 23 and 27, in the vicinity of Stevens Road, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for application of new roadway striping and reflective markers.
HONOKAA
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 36 to 39, in the vicinity of Hale Hookipa Place and Chopper Boulevard, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restriping and replacing reflective markers on the roadway.
KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250)

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 and 10.6, on Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for resurfacing and reconstructing the roadway and weakened shoulder.
