60 year-old Troy Young of Puna was charged with offenses related to the sexual assault of a mentally defective 88 year-old woman at a Puna residence.
As the Complaint alleges, Young was charged with Sexual Assault in the First Degree (knowingly subjected to sexual penetration, a person who was mentally defective) and Attempted Sexual Assault in the First Degree. “Mentally defective” mean a person suffering from a disease, disorder, or defect which renders the person incapable of appraising the nature of the person’s conduct. Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Attempted Sexual Assault in the First Degree are both class A felony offenses and carry a penalty of a twenty-year prison term.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The felony investigation was led by Detective Richard Itliong of the Hawaiʻi County Police Department’s Area I Juvenile Aid Section.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.
