Hawai‘i Island police are asking the public for information regarding a terroristic threatening and criminal property damage investigation following the arrest of a Hilo man.
Yesterday morning, officers responded to a trespassing report involving a male in a gray pickup truck parked inside a Hilo apartment complex lot.
Upon arrival, officers saw the truck and as they approached it, the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Gregory Douglas Kama of Hilo, started it up and accelerated out of the lot without warning. The truck proceeded to crash into a wooden barrel, maintenance vehicle, and two police vehicles. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Kona on August 28, 2023, then fled on Banyan Drive before entering the parking lot of a nearby hotel where the driver abandoned it and fled on foot before being located. Kama was arrested on suspicion of three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and three counts of second-degree criminal property damage. He is being held at the Hilo Cellblock while detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section continue this investigation.
