Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of August 28

The Department of Transportation announced a number of Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of August 28, 2023. Lane closure schedules may change without notice at any time. All projects are weather permitting.

KUAKINI HIGHWAY / MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) between mile post 7 and 9, in the vicinity of Old Volcano Road and North Road, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) between mile post 13 and 14, fronting Mountain View Elementary School, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Mountain View Elementary School.

 

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) between mile post 14.16 and 14.37, in the vicinity of South Lauko Road and North Lauko Road, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Mountain View Aloha Gas Station.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) between mile post 14.39 and 14.47, in the vicinity of North Lauko Road and Mountain View Park, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Mountain View Post Office.

PAHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 48 and 49, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

 

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 101.19 and 101.33, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Hookena Elementary School.

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 105.69 and 105.87, on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Honaunau Elementary School.

HONALO

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between Mamalohoa Highway and Kuakini Highway, on Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for construction on Kuakini Highway Drainage Improvements.

 

HAWAII BELT ROAD / KAWAIHAE ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

 PAPAIKOU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 6 and 8, in the vicinity of Kaaukai Place and Hanawai Street, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and shoulder work.

 

PAPAIKOU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 7.06 and 7.14, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway and Kaapoko Homestead Road, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at the intersection of Hawaii Belt Road and Old Mamalahoa Highway.

 

 HAKALAU TO NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 15.7 and 17.8, in the vicinity of Leopolino Road, on Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for repaving work.

HONOKAA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 37.72 amd 37.73, in the vicinity of Kalopa Road on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for HECO to replace substandard utility poles and restring overhead lines.

HONOKAA TO KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Mud Lane and Iokua Place on Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for paving work.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 57.03 and 57.1, on Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at the Waimea Community Center.

PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile post 11.4 and 11.45, in the vicinity of Post Office Road beginning Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at the intersection of Pahoa-Kalapana Road and Post Office Road.

MAMALOHA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

 

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) possible in either direction, between mile post 0.18 and 0.23, in the vicinity of Ahuli Circle, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Ulu Laau Lane.

WAIKOLOA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) possible in either direction, between mile post 14 and 16, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting

KALAOA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) possible in either direction, between mile post 16.9 and 26, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crews to work on highway safety improvements, strengthening and extending shoulders.

 KALAOA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) possible in either direction in the vicinity of Onaona Drive and Makalei Drive, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and shoulder work.

 

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

 

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 and 10.6, beginning Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for resurfacing and reconstructing the roadway and weakened shoulder.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 9 and 12, beginning Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mulching and shoulder work.

AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

  

HAWI

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Maluhia Road and  Upolu Airport road, beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
