Two Hilo High School graduates were taken in the first four rounds of the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Recent graduate Davin Saltiban, who had signed to play at the University of Hawaiʻi, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 98th overall pick in the third round. Saltiban was ranked No. 182 on MLB.com’s list of the top 250 draft prospects,
Maui Ahuna was taken at No. 117 by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round. Ahuna, who was rated as the No. 5 prospect out of high school in 2020, started his college career at Kansas before transferring to Tennessee.
