Hawai‘i Island police have identified the body that was discovered in Hilo Bay last week as 59-year-old David Michael McManus, of Waikoloa. Casey.Cabral@hawaiicounty.gov.

On Thursday afternoon, South Hilo patrol officers and Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel responded to the Hilo Bayfront after a caller reported observing a body floating in the water offshore. The HPD chopper immediately located McManus’s lifeless body and brought it ashore. He was transported to the Hilo Medical Center and officially pronounced dead.
