Yesterday, Senator Mazie Hirono announced she is running for re-election.
Senator Hirono, who has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013, is the only current-serving Senator of Japanese descent and immigrant. She currently sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Armed Services Committee (SASC), Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Veterans’ Affairs, and Small Business Committee. Senator Hirono is also the Chair of the SASC Subcommittee on Readiness.
Prior to serving in the Senate, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives, as lieutenant governor of Hawaiʻi, and in the Hawaiʻi state legislature.
