47 year-old Samuel Imaizumi of Ocean View was charged in relation to a January 23 felony assault of two police officers. At the time of his arrest, he was also arrested for an unrelated outstanding warrant.
Imaizumi made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Wednesday where his bail was maintained at $36,000.
As the Complaint alleges, Imaizumi was charged with Assault in the First Degree (cause serious bodily injury to another person), Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer in the First Degree, and Resisting Arrest. The most serious offense, Assault in the First Degree, is a class B felony and punishable by a ten-year prison term or four years probation and up to eighteen months in jail.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The felony investigation was led by Officer Bryson Pilor, Special Enforcement Unit, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department.
