The Ka‘ula Gulch Bridge, located along Old Māmalahoa Highway in ‘Ō‘ōkala, is closed due to a vehicle accident that caused damage to the bridge railings. The bridge will remain closed until the wooden railings are replaced, which is estimated to be completed by March 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting. A detour can be accessed at the Old Mamalahoa Highway, along the eastern entrance from Highway 19 near mile marker 29. Road closure signs and barricades will be constructed near the bridge.
Anyone who witnessed or has any information regarding the bridge damage is encouraged to contact the Hawaiʻi County Police Department at (808) 935-3311.
