The National Weather Service forecasts a cold front to move down the Hawaiʻi Island chain starting late Wednesday through Thanksgiving Day. Brief showers followed by a period of very windy conditions and high surf is expected.
Due to the high winds and surf, the following precautions are suggested:
- Individuals should consider moving any planned outdoor Thanksgiving events indoors
- Outdoor holiday decorations installation should be postponed.
- Outdoor canopies and awnings should be secured as they may become damaged or airborne.
- Those with shoreline property or boats from Upolu Point in North Kohala south through Hamakua to Cape Kumukahi in Puna, should take time to secure their property from high surf.
