UH Hilo Vulcans’ starting shortstop Casey Yamauchi was named Second Team All-Region by the D2CCA for his outstanding performances this past season. Earlier in the week, he received All-District honors by CoSIDA and was named a Third Team All-PacWest selection.
Yamauchi is one of 32 players selected from the Pacific West Conference, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association for this All-Region honor and is one of only 14 PacWest Conference selections. He had the highest batting average in the PacWest (.403) and the least amount of strikeouts (7).
As the lead off batter, he garnered 26 multi-hit games and posted three games with four hits. His .403 batting average was composed of 75 hits, a PacWest leading 21 doubles, and had one triple. The Hilo native slugged .527, scoring 46 times and drove in 21 RBIs.
Yamauchi, a Hilo native, started every game but one at shortstop where he was a part of 21 double plays and ended the season with a .941 fielding percentage.
